Installing Fishing Rods Step-by-Step

Before beginning this project, make sure you have the following materials:

  • A drill
  • 1/8" drill bit
  • Measuring tape
  • Level
  • Marker or pencil
  • Fishing rod holders (we recommend 2)
  • 3" wood screws (4 for each fishing rod holder)
  • washers (4 for each fishing rod holder)
  • 1 1/2" drywall screws (6 for each fishing rod holder)

Installation Instructions:

  1. Begin by measuring and marking the location on the wall where you will install the fishing rod holders. We recommend using 2 holders spaced evenly apart. Use a level to ensure that your marks are level with each other.
  2. Drill pilot holes at your marks using a 1/8" drill bit. Be sure not to drill through the wall!
  3. Attach the fishing rod holders to the wall using 3" wood screws, making sure to add a washer between the screw and the holder for extra stability. Use 4 screws per holder.
  4. For extra stability, use 6 drywall screws to attach a piece of scrap wood to the studs behind the wall in between each fishing rod holder (3 screws per section of scrap wood). Then, screw your fishing rod holders into this piece of wood using the remaining wood screws.

Avoiding Installation Mistakes

When installing or maintaining fishing rod holders, a few common mistakes can be easily avoided. Here are a few tips:

  1. Make sure the holes for the rod holders are properly aligned and level before drilling. This will help ensure that the rods stay in place and don't wobble.
  2. Be careful not to overtighten the screws when attaching the holders to the boat. This can strip the threads or damage the material.
  3. Use waterproof sealant around all connections and fittings to help prevent rust and corrosion.
  4. Inspect all hardware regularly to ensure it is still in good condition and not showing signs of wear or damage.
